St. Louis SC players and fans alike are ready to kick off the MLS season on Feb. 22 at Energizer Park against Colorado Rapids FC. The team hopes to play more like it did during its inaugural year, rather than last season, as they try to return to the playoffs and make a Cinderella run to the MLS Cup.
Among the most popular MLS clubs is Inter Miami CF, thanks to legendary soccer superstar Lionel Messi’s presence. Messi is cited by many to be one of, if not the, greatest soccer player ever. But will he face St. Louis SC this season?
The answer, unfortunately, is no. Inter Miami CF is not slated to play CITY SC this season. In the last two seasons, Inter Miami was on the docket for CITY SC but the 2025 season will not feature a regular season matchup between the two clubs. Last year, the teams played to a 3-3 draw in Miami. In 2023, CITY SC dominated Miami 3-0 at home.
However, there are still two opportunities for the teams to play each other this year. The teams could meet in the MLS Cup finals, where St. Louis CITY SC would enter as the Western Conference champions and Inter Miami CF would represent the Eastern Conference. The teams could also meet during the Leagues Cup, an interpromotional contest between MLS and Liga MX.
