Newly-acquired defenseman Logan Mailloux seems like he'll have to endear himself to St. Louis Blues fans this season. News of the trade quickly made its way to Blues fans and media pundits alike are none pleased about the move, especially at the cost of Zack Bolduc:

In just seven NHL games last season, Logan Mailloux scored two goals with two assists but was a -5 in plus/minus, although two of his seven pro games were blowout losses (7-2 to the Rangers and 8-2 to the Kraken.) He played 63 games for the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, where he contributed 33 total points, good for eighth on the team. Unfortunately for Mailloux and perhaps the Blues, Canadiens fans seem thrilled to move on from their former first-round pick:

Since being drafted in the first round by the Blues in 2021, Bolduc became a fan favorite playing on the team’s third and fourth lines. He had 36 points last season on 19 goals and 17 assists. However, Jimmy Snuggerud’s presence and the lack of young, NHL-ready defensemen on the roster could have convinced GM Doug Armstrong to make a move.

For the uninitiated, Mailloux was embroiled in scandal while playing in Sweden, when he secretly took photos of a woman while the two were engaged in a sexual act, then sent the photos and the woman’s identity to members of his team. While Mailloux recused himself from the 2021 NHL Draft, the Canadiens selected him 31st anyway, believing he could work on his conduct while contributing to the club.

Mailloux will likely play on the Blues’ third defensive pairing alongside either Nick Leddy or Tyler Tucker.
