Cardinals, Brewers Play Game Two

The St. Louis Cardinals look to take the series from the Milwaukee Brewers when the two teams square off at Busch Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Redbirds won a 3-2 nailbiter in the series opener on Friday. The bullpen bent, but it did not break with Kyle Leahy, Phil Maton, and Ryan Helsley all working around baserunners to secure the victory.

Sonny Saturday In STL

Sonny Gray looks to keep his perfect record intact on Saturday. The veteran right-hander is 3-0 on the season and is coming off a quality start in a no-decision against the Mets in his last outing. The Cards are 4-1 when Gray takes the ball so far in 2025.

Gray has definitely enjoyed his time at Busch Stadium, as he has a 3.00 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 25 career starts at this park.

Priester Due For Regression

Quinn Priester makes the start for the Brewers. He’s given up just 3 total earned runs over his first 3 starts this season covering 14 innings.

However, Priester is definitely due for regression. The right-hander’s 1.93 season ERA is smoke and mirrors, as his expected ERA (xERA) is 5.35. Priester has left stranded an unsustainable 91% of the runners he’s put on base.

My Lean

I don’t love this play with both of these offenses not very explosive at the moment, but my lean would be the over here.

The Cardinals should be able to put up a few runs against Priester, and even if Gray has a dominant start, I don’t trust the Cards’ bullpen to hold down the Brewers.

Leahy has worked three times in four days, so I’m guessing he’ll be unavailable on Saturday. And after throwing 26 pitches on Friday, there’s a good chance Maton won’t be available either. So Cardinals fans may be holding their collective breath in the late innings.

I won’t be betting this game personally, but if I had to, I’d take the over with the expectation that some late runs will push this one over the 7.5 number.

Lean: Over 7.5 at -102 on DraftKings
