Playoff Spot In Sight For Blues
With their 12-game winning streak over, the St. Louis Blues now put their full attention on qualifying for the NHL playoffs - and they have a chance to make it happen tonight in Edmonton.
If the Blues can beat the Oilers in regulation and the Flames lose in regulation tonight in Anaheim, the Blues will clinch their first playoff berth since 2022.
Blues Look To Start New Streak
You obviously can’t win every game, and if you’re going to have your winning streak snapped, having it come to an end on the road against the best team in the league is a pretty worthy way to go out. The Blues lost at Winnipeg 3-1 on Monday, but had a golden opportunity to tie up the game late before conceding an empty-net goal. Despite the loss, the Blues are still 19-3-2 over their last 24 games.
They will be attempting to beat the Oilers for the first time this season. Edmonton took the first two meetings 4-2 on December 7th and 3-2 in overtime on February 4th.
Oilers Missing Their Stars
While all but certainly headed to the playoffs, the Oilers are limping to the regular season finish line with several key injuries impacting their roster. Most notably, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl will be missing from this game.
Edmonton has dropped each of its last two games and is struggling to score goals. Since returning from the 4 Nations Face-Off, the Oilers have played 22 games and have scored more than three goals only three times.
My Pick
The Blues looked tired on Monday in Winnipeg. It’s possible the loss of Dylan Holloway to injury is a massive blow that exposed the Blues, but I don’t buy that. I think the loss was a case of a team that didn’t have its usual jump getting beat on the road by the best team in the league. It happens.
The Oilers are a wounded animal right now, and I expect the Blues to be hungry and come out ready to play tonight. As hot as the Blues have been for over a quarter of the season now, there’s still work to be done to solidify their spot in the playoffs. I think they do their part tonight and hopefully get some help in Anaheim.
Pick: Blues -105 on the moneyline at DraftKings (bet up to -110)
