Cards, Twins Play Game Two

The first-place St. Louis Cardinals look to build off their season-opening win when they host the Minnesota Twins in game two of their three-game series on Saturday.

Erick Fedde will make his first start of the season for the Redbirds and be opposed by right-hander Joe Ryan of Minnesota.

Fedde Great History Vs. Twins

Fedde will be looking to make a positive impression on Cardinals fans this season after a so-so couple months with the team in 2024. After compiling a 3.11 ERA in 21 starts with the White Sox last season, Fedde went just 2-5 with a 3.72 ERA in 10 starts with the Cards as a trade deadline acquisition.

Fedde has dominated his former AL Central opponent in his career. In three prior starts against the Twins, he has allowed a total of just 2 earned runs in 17 innings (1.06 ERA) to go along with 23 strikeouts and a 0.82 WHIP.

Cards Good History Vs. Ryan

Ryan is coming off a 2024 season that saw him go 7-7 with a 3.60 ERA and an outstanding 0.99 WHIP. The analytics loved Ryan last season, as he had an expected ERA (xERA) of 2.87.

The Cardinals crushed Ryan in their only prior meeting against him in 2023, as he allowed 7 earned runs and 9 hits in 4 innings while serving up home runs to Alec Burleson, Lars Nootbaar, and Jordan Walker. Ryan has also performed worse on the road (4.14 ERA) than at home (3.72 ERA) during his career.

My Lean

After a losing bet in the home opener, I’m going to tread lightly here as we see how these teams stack up to begin the season. But if forced to make a bet on this game, I’d drink the red Kool-Aid and take a shot on the Cardinals moneyline.

I was incredibly encouraged with the Cards’ performance in the home opener with solid starting pitching, a good bullpen, exceptional defense, opportunistic baserunning, an offense that hit for both average and power, and a renewed sense of energy in the dugout. The vibes were good at Busch Stadium on Thursday, and I’m also high on Fedde to have a strong season

These Redbirds are young and hungry, and I’m optimistic they can get off to a 2-0 start.

Lean: Cardinals on the moneyline at -105 on DraftKings
