St. Louis CITY SC hopes to remain undefeated when they host the Seattle Sounders tonight at Energizer Park.
CITY is coming off a 3-0 win over the defending champion LA Galaxy, giving them one win and two draws in their three games this season.
Another Clean Sheet For CITY?
CITY still has not given up a goal through their first three games this season. Only two teams in MLS history have shut out their opponents for the first four games of a season, with the most recent occurrence happening in 2012.
CITY’s offense also looked way better last weekend against the Galaxy, as they erupted for three goals after being held scoreless in their first two games.
Seattle Games Feature Goals
Seattle has already played seven times this season including their games in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, and their games have featured plenty of goals. There have been an average of 3.7 goals in Sounders games this season.
Both teams have found the net in five of those seven games, which leads me to my selection for tonight’s game.
My Pick
I’m going to keep riding the trend of high-scoring games involving the Sounders. I have full confidence that CITY gets on the scoresheet tonight after a strong offensive performance last week, and Seattle has conceded at least one goal in six of its seven games this season.
But I also think tonight is the night that CITY’s clean sheet run comes to an end. CITY’s opponents have generated a total of 2.97 expected goals this season, so regression is coming.
There’s a reason only two teams in MLS history have shut out their opponents for the first four games of a season - it’s just really hard to do.
So I think there is value tonight in taking the play of Both Teams To Score on DraftKings. It’s currently priced at -130, which I’m comfortable taking. I wouldn’t go any higher than that because I typically don’t like laying more than that on a single-game bet. But I’m very confident that CITY scores tonight, and I think Seattle finds the back of the net as well.
