Blues Begin Home Stretch
With 17 games remaining in the regular season, the St. Louis Blues begin the home stretch of their schedule when they face the Penguins in Pittsburgh tonight.
The Blues haven’t played since last Saturday, which is the longest break they’ll have from now through the end of the season.
Blues Hope To Resume Hot Streak
The Blues have been one of the NHL’s hottest teams over their last ten games with a record of 7-1-2 thanks in large part to an effective offense. They are averaging 3.9 goals per game during that stretch.
Meanwhile, Jordan Binnington has won each of his last six starts to help pull them to within two points of Calgary for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with the Flames having a game in hand. The Blues’ odds to make the playoffs are currently +400 on DraftKings.
Penguins Having Rare Down Season
The Penguins are in unfamiliar territory sitting in last place in the Metropolitan division. They are now losers of eight of their last eleven games heading into this one, although they have won their last two.
A leaky defense has been the main culprit of the Penguins’ struggles, as they rank second worst in the NHL allowing 3.57 goals per game.
My Lean
I’m eager to watch this game to see if the Blues resume their playoff push with a strong effort or if they come out flat after several days off.
I get the sense that Jim Montgomery is going to have the boys ready though.
I think the Blues have been emboldened by having their team kept intact at the trade deadline, and they can sense the opportunity to work their way into the playoffs.
Twelve of the Blues’ final 17 games are against teams not currently in playoff position like the Penguins, and the Blues have won each of their last four games against teams outside the playoff picture.
Here’s to thinking they begin the stretch run tonight with a road victory.
Lean: Blues at -122 on the moneyline on DraftKings
